CAD Test

test instructions

For the test project, you will need to draw in CAD the floor plans of a three-story townhouse in Santa Monica, CA. You will use hand sketches prepared by our architectural surveyor to create the drawings.

The characteristics of the drawings should be the same as the sample CAD drawing that is provided to you (file SampleCAD-01.dwg). We are not looking for more or less detail in the floor plans. You should match the drawing properties of the sample drawing. Use the same layers, door and window styles, appliance blocks. Your ability to match our style will be an important part of the review process.

The sketches prepared by the surveyor should not be regarded as fully accurate. There is always room for errors as the field surveys are done in a short period of time. There may even be errors in dimensions. Dimension errors that are less than 3 inches can be omitted. For errors above three inches, you should notate them on the CAD drawings. Videos are critical in the quality control process and should be used effectively. Your ability to catch errors and correctly draw the plans will be an important part of the review process.

The difference between the sample CAD drawing and the test project will be wall thicknesses. Unless noted otherwise in the survey sketches, the interior walls should be 5 inches, and exterior walls should be 7 inches in width. The drawing must be drawn in inch format

The submission deadline for the Test Project is next Tuesday (the Tuesday after this upcoming weekend) by 10:00am (US Eastern Time).

Please note your project start time and end time.

Please email hr@fpvisuals.com if you have any questions regarding the project.

CAD test

Download the files in the dropbox LINK which contains all of the required files for the project:

  • The folder “Survey Drawings” has the hand sketches created by the surveyor.. The dimensions written by the surveyor on the hand sketches are in inches (unless noted otherwise).

  • The folder “Video” has the interior and exterior videos taken by the surveyor.

  • Startfile-01.dwg : You will use this CAD file as your start file.

  • SampleCAD-01.dwg - This is a sample CAD file for you to use as a reference. The characteristics of your drawings should be the same as this sample CAD file.

For the test, you will need to create the floor plans in AutoCAD based on the survey sketches and the survey videos. To do so:

  • Review the videos against the survey sketches.

  • Create the floor plans by using Startfile-01 as your base CAD file.

  • Create a layout in CAD with appropriate verbiage.

  • Save the CAD file in 2013 version.

After you complete the file, email both the CAD file to hr@fpvisuals.com and include the total time spent on the project.

Good luck!

Photoshop Test

Download the files in the dropbox link TEST which contains all of the required files for the project:

For the test, you will need to work on the Main Level of the file entitled 4HilaritaCir.03 dwg (Upper Level not needed). To do so:

Review the videos thoroughly in order to add any appropriate text or missing items in CAD and to add material/ landscaping in PSD.

· You should also use Google Satellite view for assistance with the exterior.

· You do not need to edit the drawing in the CAD file. The scale and boundaries are set on Paper Space View. Please do not change these set properties. You will only need to add the appropriate text and missing items in to the CAD drawing.

Export PDFs from the provided CAD layout to use for the Photoshop work.

·  Color the plans in Photoshop and then save as a JPG (300dpi).

·  The final file should be formatted for 8.5”x11” full bleed letter size page size.

After you complete the file, email  the JPG file to hr@fpvisuals.com and include the total time spent on the project.

Note:

We have included sample finalized projects below which are final output files. Please review them as you will need to match your PSD to get the same kind/style of output. The characteristics of the drawings should be the same as the sample JPG files (colors, materials, landscape styles, water feature, text size and styles should all match FPV style).

We have included  a PSD sample in the PSD Sample link to illustrate the typical properties of our files.

We have included FPV Styles, Blocks and Layers in the FPV STYLES link which you may use to help with creation, materials and landscape objects.

Good luck!
