NEW FIRE SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

San Francisco passed new legislation in August 2016, requiring building owners to disclose and post extensive fire safety information. These new requirements apply to all existing and new buildings with 3 or more dwelling units.

The new requirements of the San Francisco Fire Code include having building owners post building plans with fire safety related information in common areas and provide residential tenants with unit plans that include fire safety information.

Even if your building has existing evacuation plans posted on walls, you will still need new signs that meet the new fire safety disclosure requirements and post them in the building.

Floor Plan Visuals can assist you in meeting the posting and tenant disclosure requirements. See below for items we can complete for your building.

A sign depicting the floor layout for the associated floor must be posted in a common area on each floor frequented by residents. The sign must identify the location of all fire extinguishers, emergency exits, fire escapes, pull stations and fire alarm control panel. Additional fire safety information needs to be included on the sign per SFFC 409, meeting the requirements of Section 11B-703.5 of the California Building Code.
